I first met Sarah and Vernon in Dorset, a few weeks before their big day, for a pre-wedding portrait shoot at Highcliffe Castle. A total contrast to their choice of wedding venue in the North Tower Lounge of the iconic Tower Bridge. It’s a unique venue filled with wrought ironwork and impressive views over the Thames to the Shard.
Vernon’s three daughters were the bridesmaids. Their dresses were very stylish, the same design but three different lengths, and the colour complimented their Dad’s waistcoat and tie perfectly. The picture of them walking along a London street with Vernon on their way to the wedding is one of my favourites. Sarah looked equally as stunning in her white lace dress.
There was a lovely relaxed feel to the wedding party as they walked down to the quayside to throw the traditional confetti after the ceremony. Then it was all aboard an open-topped London double-decker bus to take them to what is said to be the oldest riverside tavern in London, the Prospect of Whitby, where the reception was held. A great venue where the kids especially enjoyed waving from the balcony at the passing boats as they travelled up and down the river.
The place name settings were really inspired. Instead of the usual names written on cards, Sarah and Vernon used pictures of each guest when they were a child. Guests were told which table they were on and had to find their seat by recognising themselves when they were little. The guests loved searching for themselves and guessing who everyone else was from their photos. It was a really good way to break the ice and get the party started.
