I was delighted to be invited to photograph Joseph’s and Hanna’s wedding in Sweden. Although they both live in Harrow and work in London, Hanna wanted to get married in her home town and I could see why as soon as I arrived. Beautiful lakes and forests as far as the eye could see offered a stunning backdrop.
We all met up for drinks the night before the wedding in a local hotel restaurant in Almhult, where the couple were staying and getting ready the next day. There was a buzz of excitement about the day ahead as friends and family had travelled from far and wide.
The couple were married in Stenbrohults Kryka, a lovely church with beautiful painted frescoes located by Lake Möckelns. Then they headed to the Funkisfabriken, an old furniture factory located in Diö, for the reception. The well known Gemla furniture company is still producing handmade furniture in some parts of the building today while artists, designers and craftsmen have studios in other parts. Hanna’s grandfather was a furniture maker in the factory years ago, and Hanna and her father both work for Ikea which is based in Almhult, so the factory was a poignant location for the wedding venue for a family with such a history and love of furniture and design.
