This ongoing project aims to portray all the living British Individual Olympic Gold Medallists and to record their thoughts today as we enter a new century of sport. This rich collection of over forty sporting personalities will reveal a unique view of over half a century of Olympic competition, and perhaps provide us with an insight into the future, as we begin a new century of sport. With Britain’s recent successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics the project has taken on a further significance.
Having already photographed and interviewed several Olympic Champions it has become clear to me the significant historical value of this project. Some of the earlier champions are in either poor health or old age and their stimulating accounts of hardship and endeavour offer a striking contrast to today’s high profile competitive world of Olympic competition. These iconic chapters of British sporting achievement are inevitably slipping away.
